Dr. Eric Wheelis
Dr. Eric Wheelis has over 25 years of clinical experience treating small and large animals.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. In 1997 he graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
His experience includes caring for small animal patients and treating livestock. As a practicing veterinarian, he has a strong interest in endocrinology. His training also included the study of foreign animal diseases at the USDA's Plum Island facility.
Dr. Wheelis and his family live in New Bern, NC. He spends most of his free time with his family. He also enjoys kayaking, hiking, and playing the piano. Songs that he has composed can be found iTunes & Spotify!

Dr. Kelly Kropilak
Dr. Kropilak is originally from New Jersey but recently moved to New Bern to be closer to family in the area and warmer beaches. Born & raised in New Jersey, she received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University. She moved southward to St. George's University in Grenada to earn a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Kelly has over 13 years of experience in private, small animal practices and in spay & neuter clinics/shelters. Her work has moved her from New Jersey to Wyoming and back east to North Carolina. She enjoys the beach, music, reading and being a proud aunt to her nephews and niece. There is not a printed scrub top she doesn't like, especially with sharks on it!
Sharon
Practice Administrator
Sharon enjoys working with her husband, Dr. Wheelis, in order to bring care and compassion to both owners and their pets. She is previously a Registered Nurse and earned a Bachelor of Arts from UNC at Chapel Hill but she now enjoys patients that are fur babies! After their move to New Bern in 2001, she became a stay-at-home mom until the opening of AHNB. She helps with practice administration. In her free time, she enjoys all of her kids activities, kayaking, hiking, reading, & doing jigsaw puzzles. They share their home with 1 dog, Lacy, a sweet cat, Sonic, and 2 parakeets.

Hospital Manager
Samantha handles day to day management. There to answer your questions, she knows the importance of high quality pet care and customer service and she is always willing to help with your concerns. She keeps the hospital running smoothly. Being a true local to New Bern, Samantha was born and raised in eastern NC and welcomes those new to our area. She is always busy continuing her education. She enjoys relaxing best with her 5 rescue dogs & one cat.

Alexis welcomes you with a smile as she handles your concerns about your pets & schedules their appointments. She has worked many years in human healthcare with LabCrop. She has adapted well to our pet families and helping with their needs. Alexis enjoys spending time with her family & their fur babies, volunteering with local missions and relaxing at the beach.

Jan has always loved working with animals! She comes to us after many years working in emergency pet medicine. We appreciate her experience and love for all fur babies. She also enjoys riding her horses and competing in barrel races on the weekends. We believe she will love on your pets like her own!

Chloe moved to eastern NC from Alabama and we are fortunate to have her working with us. She has experience working in animal hospitals, volunteering with the Chattanooga Zoo and earned an Associates of Science Degree with concentration in biology. She is pictured with one of her rescue kitties, Wazowski. We hope her and her husband will be stationed here for several years!

We are happy that Shauna joined us the summer of 2021. She is from central North Carolina and moved to New Bern for her husband's work. She has experience working previously in an animal hospital outside of Greensboro. She brightens up our office with her smiles and love for animals. They enjoy life with their daughter, German Shepard and 2 rescue cats. In her spare time, she enjoys their baby daugther, painting, knitting and running.
